The ability for anyone to download a social media app, and have instant access to narcotics, has turned a younger generation into prolific drug dealers. Drug dealers, using social media applications, have made connections around the world. Human traffickers have turned to these apps to reach a broader clientele while thinking they have anonymity. The advent of making payments through apps electronically has streamlined the illicit flow of cash.

Cash App
The courses will teach investigators an overview of how to use the platforms, the information needed for preservation requests and search warrants, how to submit court orders through the different law enforcement portals, and how to decipher the data received pursuant to warrants and locate evidence. The course will provide investigators with the techniques to capture information in the apps, the language and lingo used, and case studies to accompany each of the social media and financial applications

I'm a narcotics investigator based in the Pacific Northwest and member of a HIDTA Task Force. I am also a Task Force Officer (TFO) with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I recognized an increased amount of fentanyl overdose deaths originating through deals established in Snapchat. I learned how to analyze the social media data to conduct criminal investigations, and successfully turned my cases into state and federal prosecutions. As drug dealing and social media have become more intertwined, I learned how to navigate drug deals taking place in Telegram, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Venmo and Cash App.
